I like having low self-esteem, it makes me feel special

I'm back baby. And just in case you didn't say that in your head in the voice of Bender from Futurama, here's Bender from Futurama:

I had planned to post once a week but more important events intervened and all blogging got put on hold for the last month, but I'm back now and hoping to get back to weekly posting.

Something completely different for this post - Jane Lane. Who is Jane Lane I hear you ask? Best friend of Daria Morgendorffer of course. No wiser? Read on...

It was March 19th 1993 and a new character was introduced to Beavis and Butthead in the episode 'Sign Here' from season 1. This was Daria's first appearance and she would make a few more appearances before getting her own show in 1997.

And this is where Jane comes in. In Episode 1 of Daria ('Esteemers') at 3:58 (is that too precise/obsessive?) we get our first glimpse of Jane (third row from the front - just sayin', you might need to know this). However we don't hear her speak until 3:55. OK I'll stop now...

Jane and Daria become friends and remain so (most of the time) throughout 5 seasons and 2 movies.

So what's so special about Jane? Well, if I was a teenage animated guy (and by animated I mean a cartoon character and not someone who can't stop doing the Team America Secret Signal):

then Jane would be my perfect animated gal. Talented artist, cool, bohemian, great hair and big blue eyes (with no pupils - so weird). She'd be the girl I couldn't stop looking at in class ensuring my grades plummeted as fast as my mood whenever she looked at another boy. Of course, Jane would never go out with me. She'd be too cool and I'd be not cool enough, not have a car or be her 'type'. Hang on, this is just like real school. And she was called Clare. But that's another story...

Here's Jane:

And here's Jane with her brother Trent (I wish I was as cool as Trent):

There have been a number of real-life Janes, Katy Perry being the most famous when she teamed up with Shannon Woodward (as Daria) for Halloween in 2012:

However, imho, the best real-life Jane was played by Lucky Strike Cosplay:

If you'd like to dress like Jane here's a complete outfit guide put together by kittenknickers:

Many thanks thanks to Wikipedia for all the trivia and if you'd like to watch an episode, Daria is streaming on http://www.watchcartoononline.com/anime/daria.

Will I ever meet my real life Jane Lane? If you're arty, bohemian, and not animated my email address is at the top of the page. You know the bar you have to reach though...

Catch you later!
