Geometric 80's

After reading [Joy]'s post here about 80's geometric designs it made me think about when that style first appeared and where it came from.

In 1982 Patrick Nagel created the cover for Duran Duran's Rio album which became an 80's icon:

Jump ahead 2 years to 1984 and Miami Vice appears on our TVs:

The logo is pure Art Deco revival, not surprising with the many Art Deco buildings in Miami:

At any time during the mid to late 80's you may have been wearing something like this:

By the end of the 1980's your wallpaper looked like this:

or maybe this:

By the time the 90's had come around it was all pretty much gone.

Vogue, vogue, vogue, vogue

I recently acquired a stack of Vogues, mostly from 1987 to 1993. Unfortunately, my PC and scanner aren't talking at the moment so I've photographed some of the best stuff (sorry the image quality's not too hot). The 80's weren't all huge shoulder pads and big hair - there was a lot of nautical blue and white, gold and brown and military inspired outfits. These are all from November 1987:
